Iropharm

Iropharm was a specialist contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) based in Arklow, Ireland, focused on the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The company provided custom synthesis, process development, and scale-up services for small molecule drugs to the global pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. In 2002, Iropharm was acquired by Sigma-Aldrich for approximately $18 million to expand its fine chemicals business, SAFC. The acquisition integrated Iropharm's cGMP-compliant manufacturing capabilities into Sigma-Aldrich's global network. Following the 2015 merger of Sigma-Aldrich and Merck KGaA, the facility became part of Merck's Life Science business. The site continues to operate as a key manufacturing hub for complex chemical synthesis.
