Ischemia Technologies

Ischemia Technologies was a medical diagnostics company specializing in the development of biomarkers for the early detection of cardiac ischemia. The company is best known for its Albumin Cobalt Binding (ACB) Test, which received FDA clearance in 2003 as the first blood test to aid in the evaluation of patients suspected of having acute coronary syndrome. The test measures Ischemia Modified Albumin (IMA), a marker that appears in the blood within minutes of an ischemic event, providing a significant advantage over traditional necrosis markers like troponin. By enabling earlier diagnosis, the company's technology helped clinicians better manage chest pain patients in emergency settings. Ischemia Technologies was acquired by Inverness Medical Innovations in 2005 for approximately $13 million.
