Company intelligence / Profile preview
Isconova AB was a pioneering Swedish biotechnology company that specialized in the development and commercialization of vaccine adjuvants based on its proprietary ISCOM (Immune Stimulating Complex) technology. Founded in 2000 as a spin-off from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, the company developed a range of saponin-based nanoparticle platforms, most notably Matrix-M, which enhances both humoral and cellular immune responses. Isconova's technology has been widely licensed to major pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer, Merck & Co., and CSL, for use in both veterinary and human vaccines. Its flagship adjuvant, Matrix-M, demonstrated significant dose-sparing and immune-enhancing properties in clinical trials for influenza and other infectious diseases. In 2013, Isconova was acquired by Novavax, and its technology became a cornerstone of Novavax's vaccine development efforts, including its recombinant protein-based COVID-19 vaccine.
