Isegen

Isegen was a biotechnology company focused on the development of a novel class of anti-infective drugs based on naturally occurring antimicrobial peptides called protegrins. The company's lead candidate, iseganan (IB-367), was a synthetic peptide designed to treat and prevent infections by rapidly disrupting the membranes of a wide range of pathogens, including bacteria and fungi. Iseganan reached late-stage clinical development for indications such as oral mucositis in cancer patients and ventilator-associated pneumonia. In 2002, Isegen was acquired by Genaera Corporation in an all-stock transaction to expand Genaera's portfolio of peptide-based therapeutics. The acquisition integrated Isegen's protegrin technology and clinical programs into Genaera's anti-infective pipeline.
