Isonics

Isonics Corporation was a specialty materials company that focused on the development and commercialization of stable isotopes for the life sciences and semiconductor industries. The company's life sciences division provided enriched stable isotopes, such as Carbon-13 and Oxygen-18, which are essential for diagnostic breath tests, metabolic studies, and positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. Isonics was particularly known for its role in supplying isotopes for the detection of Helicobacter pylori infections. In addition to its healthcare business, the company developed isotopically pure Silicon-28 for the semiconductor industry to improve thermal conductivity in microchips. Following financial difficulties, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009. Its life sciences assets were subsequently acquired by Cambridge Isotope Laboratories.
