Istituto Sclavo

Istituto Sclavo was a pioneering Italian biopharmaceutical company founded in 1904 by Achille Sclavo, specializing in the development and production of vaccines and therapeutic serums. Based in Siena, Italy, the institute became a global leader in immunology, notably developing early treatments for anthrax and contributing significantly to the development of modern conjugate vaccines. Following a series of acquisitions by Chiron Corporation, Novartis, and finally GSK, its research and manufacturing facilities now serve as a core global vaccine hub for GSK. Today, the Sclavo legacy persists through the Sclavo Vaccines Association, a non-profit dedicated to vaccines for neglected diseases, and Sclavo Diagnostics International, which focuses on clinical chemistry and immunology.
