Company intelligence / Profile preview
IVAX Drug Research Institute (IDRI) was the primary research and development subsidiary of IVAX Corporation, specializing in the discovery and development of generic and proprietary pharmaceutical products. Based in Budapest, Hungary, the institute was established following IVAX's acquisition of the state-owned Institute for Drug Research (Gyógyszerkutató Intézet) in the early 1990s. IDRI was instrumental in developing IVAX's portfolio in oncology, respiratory health, and central nervous system disorders, notably contributing to the development of oral cladribine and advanced drug delivery systems like the Easi-Breathe inhaler. In 2006, IVAX Corporation was acquired by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries for approximately $7.4 billion, leading to the integration of IDRI into Teva's global R&D network. Today, the facility continues to operate as a key research site for Teva in Europe.
