IVAX Corporation was a leading global pharmaceutical company specializing in the development, manufacture, and marketing of generic and branded drug products. Headquartered in Miami, Florida, the company established a significant presence in the respiratory, oncology, and central nervous system therapeutic areas. IVAX was particularly recognized for its innovative respiratory franchise, which included the development of the ProAir HFA (albuterol sulfate) inhalation aerosol. In January 2006, IVAX was acquired by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries for approximately $7.4 billion, a move that solidified Teva's position as the world's largest generic drug manufacturer.
