Company intelligence / Profile preview
Izalex was a clinical-stage biotechnology company primarily focused on the development of nemolizumab, a first-in-class monoclonal antibody designed to treat moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis and prurigo nodularis. The company held the exclusive global rights (excluding Japan and Taiwan) to nemolizumab, which targets the interleukin-31 receptor A (IL-31RA) to inhibit the signaling of IL-31, a key cytokine involved in pruritus and skin inflammation. In July 2016, Izalex was acquired by Galderma (then a division of Nestlé Skin Health) to bolster Galderma's dermatology pipeline. Following the acquisition, nemolizumab successfully progressed through late-stage clinical trials and received FDA approval for prurigo nodularis in 2024. The asset represents a significant advancement in the treatment of chronic itch and inflammatory skin conditions.
