Jensen-Salsbery Laboratories

Jensen-Salsbery Laboratories, commonly known as Jen-Sal, was a pioneering American veterinary pharmaceutical and biologicals company founded in 1913 by Dr. Hans Jensen and Dr. C.E. Salsbery. Based in Kansas City, Missouri, the firm specialized in the development and manufacture of vaccines, serums, and pharmaceutical products specifically for the veterinary profession. The company was a leader in animal health for several decades, notably contributing to the control of rabies and various livestock diseases through its innovative biological products. In 1955, Jen-Sal was acquired by Richardson-Merrell, and it later passed through the ownership of Burroughs Wellcome in 1979. Its legacy continues today through the various animal health entities that absorbed its product lines and research, including Merck Animal Health.
