John Ball Zoological Gardens

John Ball Zoo is an urban zoological park located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, dedicated to wildlife conservation and environmental education. Established in 1891, it is one of the oldest zoos in the United States and maintains accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). The zoo manages a diverse collection of over 2,000 animals across various habitats, including the Forest Realm, Crawford Tiger Territory, and the Idema Aquarium. Beyond public exhibits, the organization participates in numerous Species Survival Plans (SSP) and global conservation initiatives to protect endangered species. It operates through a public-private partnership between the John Ball Zoo Society and Kent County.
