Company intelligence / Profile preview
KabiGen was a pioneering Swedish biotechnology company established in 1983 as a subsidiary of KabiVitrum to specialize in recombinant DNA technology. The company was instrumental in the development and scale-up of biosynthetic human growth hormone, marketed as Genotropin, and recombinant blood coagulation factors. As a critical link between academic molecular biology research and industrial pharmaceutical production, KabiGen helped establish Sweden as a hub for modern biotechnology. Following the merger of its parent company with Pharmacia in 1990, KabiGen was integrated into Kabi Pharmacia, and its legacy continues through products now managed by Pfizer.
