Company intelligence / Profile preview
Kalera was a vertical farming company focused on controlled-environment agriculture rather than biopharma or healthcare. The company used proprietary hydroponic cultivation systems, environmental controls, automation, lighting recipes, and data-driven production methods to grow leafy greens and microgreens in indoor farms near end markets. Kalera became publicly traded through a de-SPAC process and operated facilities in the United States and internationally, but filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April 2023. Its assets were subsequently sold, and the legacy public company was effectively wound down. Because its business centered on fresh produce production rather than therapeutics, diagnostics, or medical services, it is not a life sciences or healthcare company.
