Company intelligence / Profile preview
Kaleido Biosciences was a clinical-stage biotechnology company that pioneered the development of Microbiome Metabolic Therapies (MMTs) to treat a variety of diseases by modulating the gut microbiome. Unlike traditional microbiome approaches that utilize live bacterial consortia, Kaleido's proprietary platform employed a library of synthetic glycans designed to selectively drive the metabolic activity of existing microbes. The company's lead programs, KB195 and KB174, reached Phase 2 clinical trials for the treatment of urea cycle disorders and hepatic encephalopathy, respectively. Despite its innovative chemistry-driven approach and public listing on the NASDAQ, the company faced significant financial challenges and officially ceased all operations in April 2022.
