Company intelligence / Profile preview
Kenya BioVax Institute (KBI) is a state-owned commercial enterprise established by the Government of Kenya to manufacture, package, and commercialize specialized health products, with a primary focus on vaccines. Headquartered in Nairobi, the institute was formed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure regional vaccine security and self-sufficiency. KBI aims to transition from fill and finish operations to full-scale manufacturing of various biologics, including routine childhood vaccines and specialized therapeutics. The organization collaborates with international partners to establish World Health Organization (WHO) compliant manufacturing facilities. Its long-term goal is to serve as a hub for vaccine production for the East African region. By localizing production, KBI seeks to reduce the cost of immunization programs and improve the response time to future health emergencies.
