Kirin-Amgen

Kirin-Amgen was a landmark 50/50 joint venture established in 1984 between the American biotechnology pioneer Amgen and the Japanese company Kirin Holdings. The partnership is widely regarded as one of the most successful in the industry, responsible for the development of foundational biologic therapies such as Epogen and Neupogen. These products revolutionized the treatment of anemia and neutropenia, generating billions of dollars in revenue over several decades. The joint venture held the intellectual property and marketing rights for these blockbuster drugs across various global territories. In 2017, Amgen reached an agreement to acquire Kirin's stake in the venture for approximately 780 million dollars, effectively making Kirin-Amgen a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amgen.
