Knoll

Knoll was a research-driven German pharmaceutical company founded in 1886 by Albert Knoll, headquartered in Ludwigshafen. The company achieved significant medical milestones, most notably the discovery and development of verapamil, the world's first calcium channel blocker used to treat hypertension and angina. Its portfolio also included widely recognized treatments such as Synthroid for hypothyroidism and the analgesic Vicodin. In 2001, Abbott Laboratories acquired Knoll from its parent company, BASF, for $6.9 billion to strengthen its global pharmaceutical presence. Following Abbott's corporate split in 2013, Knoll's legacy products and research assets became part of AbbVie.
