Kostas Research Institute

The George J. Kostas Research Institute for Homeland Security (KRI), operating as KRI at Northeastern University, LLC, is a wholly owned, non-profit research institution of Northeastern University. Established in 2011, KRI is dedicated to advancing national security, defense, and resilience through collaborative, customer-driven applied research and development. The institute operates secure facilities that bring together academic researchers, industry partners, and government agencies to work on next-generation technologies. Key areas of technical focus include applied artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, autonomous systems, and advanced materials. KRI also hosts specialized facilities such as the Biopharmaceutical Analysis Training Laboratory (BATL) and the Life Sciences Testing Center (LSTC) on its campus, bridging national security with life sciences.
