Company intelligence / Profile preview
KV Pharmaceutical was a specialty pharmaceutical company that focused on the development, manufacturing, and marketing of branded and generic prescription products, primarily in the women's healthcare sector. The company operated through its subsidiaries, Ther-Rx Corporation for branded products and ETHEX Corporation for generics, and was notable for its proprietary drug delivery technologies. Its most prominent product was Makena, an injectable hormone used to reduce the risk of preterm birth, which became the subject of significant national controversy regarding its pricing. Following a series of regulatory challenges with the FDA and financial instability, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2012. It subsequently rebranded as Lumara Health and was acquired by AMAG Pharmaceuticals in 2014.
