Company intelligence / Profile preview
Kyphon was a medical device company that specialized in developing and marketing minimally invasive therapies for the treatment and restoration of spinal anatomy. The company is best known for pioneering balloon kyphoplasty, a procedure used to treat vertebral compression fractures caused by osteoporosis or cancer. Their flagship KyphX technology utilized inflatable bone tamps to create a cavity in the collapsed vertebra before filling it with bone cement to stabilize the fracture and restore vertebral height. Kyphon was acquired by Medtronic in 2007 for approximately $3.9 billion, significantly expanding Medtronic's spinal business. Today, its technologies remain a standard of care in interventional spine procedures globally.
