Labcoat Ltd. was a medical device company based in Galway, Ireland, that specialized in the development of advanced drug-eluting stent (DES) technologies. The company's core innovation was a proprietary droplet-based coating process that applied a thin, biodegradable polymer and drug combination exclusively to the abluminal (outer) surface of the stent. This approach was designed to promote faster healing of the vessel wall and reduce the risk of late stent thrombosis compared to permanent polymer stents. In 2008, Labcoat was acquired by Boston Scientific, and its technology became a foundational component of the SYNERGY Bioabsorbable Polymer Drug-Eluting Stent System.
