Laboratoire Choay was a pioneering French pharmaceutical company best known for its significant contributions to the field of anticoagulation. Founded by Jean Choay, the company specialized in the extraction and purification of biological substances, most notably heparin and its derivatives. It was instrumental in the development of low-molecular-weight heparins, including the widely used Fraxiparine. The company's research into the fractionation of heparin led to safer and more effective treatments for venous thromboembolism. In 1973, the company was acquired by Sanofi, marking a major expansion of Sanofi's presence in the cardiovascular market.
