Laboratorien Hausmann was a pioneering Swiss pharmaceutical firm based in St. Gallen, renowned for its specialized research into iron metabolism and therapy. Founded in 1952, the company developed breakthrough carbohydrate-iron complexes, most notably iron sucrose and iron polymaltose, which revolutionized the treatment of iron deficiency anemia. These developments led to the creation of flagship products such as Venofer and Maltofer. In 1983, the company was acquired by the Galenica Group and subsequently integrated into Vifor Pharma. Today, its legacy continues under CSL Vifor, maintaining a dominant position in the global iron replacement market.
