Laurus Capital Management, commonly known as Laurus Funds, was a New York-based investment firm and hedge fund that specialized in providing structured financing to small-cap and micro-cap companies, with a primary focus on the life sciences, biotechnology, and healthcare sectors. Founded by brothers David and Eugene Grin in 2001, the firm was a prolific provider of PIPE (Private Investment in Public Equity) financing and senior secured convertible debt during the mid-2000s. Laurus played a critical role in the capitalization of numerous emerging biotech companies, including Bioniche Life Sciences, Cytomyx, and Inyx, often serving as a primary lender to support their clinical development and operational growth. Although the firm was a major player in healthcare finance, it eventually faced liquidity challenges and regulatory scrutiny, leading to the transition of its management activities to Valens Capital Management.
