Lavaca Therapeutics was a biotechnology company focused on developing novel small molecule therapies for rare metabolic diseases. Its lead program, LVT-001, was designed as a substrate reduction therapy targeting glycolate oxidase for the treatment of Primary Hyperoxaluria Type 1 (PH1). The company aimed to provide an oral alternative to injectable RNA interference therapies for patients suffering from this rare genetic kidney disorder. In June 2021, Lavaca was acquired by Veralox Therapeutics, which integrated the PH1 program into its pipeline of therapies for rare hematologic and metabolic diseases. Prior to its acquisition, the company was backed by prominent life science investors such as Hatteras Venture Partners.
