Leading Biosciences was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing novel therapeutics to improve patient recovery following major surgery. The company's lead candidate, LB1148, is a first-in-class, oral digestive protease inhibitor designed to preserve gastrointestinal function and prevent the formation of postoperative adhesions by neutralizing digestive enzymes in the gut. By protecting the intestinal mucosal barrier, the therapy aims to reduce the time to return of bowel function and decrease the incidence of surgical complications. In April 2021, Leading Biosciences completed a reverse merger with Seneca Biopharma to form Palisade Bio, which continues to advance the company's clinical programs.
