Lederle Japan

Lederle Japan was a prominent pharmaceutical joint venture established in 1953 between American Cyanamid (Lederle Laboratories) and Takeda Pharmaceutical Company. The company played a crucial role in introducing Western medical advancements to the Japanese market, focusing on antibiotics, vaccines, and oncology treatments. Key products in its portfolio included the tetracycline antibiotic Minocin and methotrexate-based therapies for cancer and rheumatoid arthritis. In 2003, following the global acquisition of American Cyanamid by American Home Products (later Wyeth), the joint venture was dissolved and integrated into Wyeth K.K. This entity was subsequently acquired by Pfizer in 2009, making Lederle Japan's legacy part of Pfizer's current Japanese operations.
