Lederle Pharmaceuticals

Lederle Laboratories was a pioneering American pharmaceutical company founded in 1906 by Dr. Ernst Lederle, a former New York City health commissioner. The company became a major division of American Cyanamid and achieved global recognition for its breakthroughs in antibiotics, vaccines, and oncology. It is most famous for developing Aureomycin, the first tetracycline antibiotic, and for its role as a primary manufacturer of the Sabin oral polio vaccine. The company's sprawling campus in Pearl River, New York, was a cornerstone of mid-20th-century medical innovation and manufacturing. In 1994, Lederle's parent company was acquired by American Home Products (later Wyeth), and following Pfizer's acquisition of Wyeth in 2009, the Lederle brand was fully integrated into Pfizer's operations.
