Leo Cancer Care has developed a novel upright patient positioning platform integrated with advanced imaging to deliver various forms of radiotherapy—including proton beam therapy—in a more comfortable and potentially more effective way. Their Marie™ solution has been installed at leading centers such as McLaren Proton Therapy Center in Michigan and UW Health in Wisconsin. The company’s approach allows treatment with fixed-beam systems rather than large rotating gantries—reducing cost/space requirements—and supports new modalities like FLASH radiotherapy. As of mid–2025 their flagship product was under FDA review with first clinical use anticipated soon. Early research suggests improved workflow efficiency, reduced costs, better organ targeting due to natural anatomical position when upright, and enhanced patient comfort compared to traditional supine approaches.
