LeukoSite was a pioneering biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of therapeutics for inflammatory diseases, autoimmune disorders, and cancer. The company specialized in targeting cell adhesion molecules and chemokine receptors to regulate the trafficking of white blood cells. Its most significant contributions to medicine include the development of the blockbuster drug Entyvio (vedolizumab) for inflammatory bowel disease and the oncology/MS treatment Campath (alemtuzumab). In 1999, LeukoSite was acquired by Millennium Pharmaceuticals for approximately 635 million dollars, marking a transition for Millennium from a genomics provider to a fully integrated biopharmaceutical company.
