Changsheng Bio-technology was formerly one of China's leading vaccine manufacturers, specializing in the development and production of human vaccines for various infectious diseases. The company gained international notoriety in 2018 following a massive public health scandal where it was found to have falsified production and inspection records for its rabies vaccine. As a result of the investigation, Chinese regulatory authorities revoked the company's pharmaceutical production licenses and imposed a record-breaking fine of approximately $1.3 billion. The company was subsequently forced into bankruptcy and was officially delisted from the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in late 2019. Prior to its collapse, its product portfolio included widely used vaccines for rabies, varicella, influenza, and DTaP.
