Licentia

Licentia was the technology transfer and commercialization arm of the University of Helsinki, specializing in the development and licensing of life science and biotechnology innovations. The company managed a broad portfolio of intellectual property, spanning therapeutic areas such as oncology, neurology, and cardiovascular health. Licentia was instrumental in spinning out several prominent Finnish biotech companies, including BioTie Therapies and Herantis Pharma. Its operations focused on bridging the gap between academic research and industrial application through patenting, licensing, and venture creation. In 2011, Licentia's activities were integrated into Helsinki Innovation Services (HIS), which continues to manage the university's commercialization efforts.
