Life Medical Sciences, later known as SyntheMed, was a medical technology company specializing in the development of bioresorbable polymer products designed to prevent post-surgical adhesions. The company's proprietary technology platform produced synthetic films that acted as physical barriers, preventing internal tissues from bonding during the healing process. Its flagship product, REPEL-CV, was notably the first bioresorbable adhesion barrier to receive FDA approval for use in pediatric cardiac surgery. These products were designed to improve surgical outcomes by reducing the complexity of follow-up procedures and minimizing tissue trauma. In 2011, the company was acquired by C. R. Bard, integrating its portfolio into Bard's surgical specialties division.
