LifeTech

Life Technologies was a U.S.-based life sciences company formed in 2008 through the merger of Invitrogen and Applied Biosystems. The company sold research tools, instruments, reagents, consumables, and diagnostics-related products spanning genomics, proteomics, cell biology, molecular biology, and applied testing markets. Its portfolio included widely used brands such as Applied Biosystems, Invitrogen, Ion Torrent, GIBCO, Ambion, Molecular Probes, Novex, and TaqMan. Life Technologies was acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific in February 2014, and its businesses were largely integrated into Thermo Fisher's Life Sciences Solutions segment. It was not a therapeutics developer in the usual biotech sense, but rather a commercial life science tools and enabling technologies company serving research, clinical, and industrial customers.
