Company intelligence / Profile preview
LIG Biowise (later renamed Phoenix DX) was a Manchester-based biotechnology company specializing in ultra-rapid point-of-care (POC) molecular diagnostics. The company developed a proprietary platform that integrated DNA extraction, amplification, and detection into a single step, significantly reducing the time and cost of diagnosing infectious diseases. Its primary focus was on upper respiratory tract infections, aiming to provide accurate results at the point of need to improve prescribing practices and combat antimicrobial resistance. Founded in 2014 as a spin-out from the University of Manchester, the company secured Series A funding in 2018 but entered voluntary liquidation in late 2023.
