Light Science Oncology was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company that developed light-activated therapies for the treatment of solid tumors and other conditions. The company's proprietary Light Infusion Technology (Litx) platform utilized a disposable, small-profile LED light source to activate a photosensitizing drug, Aptocine (talaporfin sodium), directly within the target tissue. This drug-device combination was designed to induce localized tumor necrosis while sparing adjacent healthy structures like blood vessels and bile ducts. The company's lead programs reached Phase 3 clinical trials for hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma before the company ceased operations following clinical setbacks and the withdrawal of its IPO.
