Company intelligence / Profile preview
Ligo Medical was a biotechnology company specializing in the development of a proprietary thin-film drug delivery platform for ocular therapeutics. Spun out of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), the company focused on creating sustained-release formulations to treat chronic eye diseases like glaucoma and wet age-related macular degeneration. Their technology was designed to provide long-lasting drug delivery from a tiny, injectable implant, potentially reducing the burden of frequent eye drops or injections. In 2017, Ligo Medical was acquired by Aerie Pharmaceuticals to integrate its delivery platform with Aerie's pipeline of ophthalmic drugs. The platform has since been used to develop sustained-release versions of ROCK inhibitors for retinal diseases.
