Company intelligence / Profile preview
Laboratorio Italiano di Ricerca Chimica Applicata, known as LIRCA, was a specialized Italian pharmaceutical research laboratory focused on the discovery and development of small molecule therapeutics. Historically operating as the core research engine for the Zambon Group, LIRCA gained international recognition for its contributions to anti-infective and respiratory medicine. The laboratory is most notably credited with the development of fosfomycin trometamol (Monuril), a widely used treatment for urinary tract infections. While the entity has been integrated into the broader Zambon Group, its heritage remains central to the group's R&D capabilities in Bresso, Italy. Today, its former facilities form part of the OpenZone life sciences campus.
