Litton Bionetics

Litton Bionetics was a U.S. biomedical research and diagnostics company and government research contractor that operated as a subsidiary of Litton Industries. The company was active in cancer research, retrovirology, diagnostic development, and laboratory services, including work at Fort Detrick for the Frederick Cancer Research Center. Historical accounts credit the organization with contributions to the co-discovery and characterization of interleukin-2, co-discovery of HIV-1, and development of an early HIV diagnostic blood test. In 1985, Litton Bionetics was acquired by Organon Teknika, after which parts of its U.S. government support laboratory operations were renamed Advanced BioScience Laboratories. The company no longer appears to operate as an independent active business entity.
