Company intelligence / Profile preview
LizardTech was a software company primarily known for developing the MrSID (Multiresolution Seamless Image Database) technology, a powerful image compression format used for managing massive geospatial and high-resolution imagery. While not a biotechnology company in the traditional sense, its technology became a standard in digital pathology and medical imaging for viewing and distributing large-scale scans, such as whole-slide imaging (WSI). The company's tools allowed researchers and clinicians to zoom and pan through gigapixel-sized medical images without significant latency. LizardTech was acquired by Celartem in 2003 and eventually merged into Extensis in 2018.
