Lorex Synthelabo

Lorex Synthelabo was a prominent pharmaceutical joint venture established between the French company Synthelabo and G.D. Searle & Co. (later part of Pfizer). The partnership was primarily focused on the development and commercialization of innovative central nervous system and cardiovascular therapies in international markets, particularly the United States and United Kingdom. The company is best known for bringing the blockbuster insomnia medication Zolpidem, branded as Ambien, to market, which became a global standard in sleep medicine. Following the merger of Sanofi and Synthelabo in 1999, the joint venture's operations and product rights were integrated into the successor entity, Sanofi-Synthelabo. Today, its legacy products remain core components of the Sanofi pharmaceutical portfolio.
