Lpath Therapeutics

Lpath was a biotechnology company specializing in the discovery and development of monoclonal antibodies that target bioactive signaling lipids. Utilizing its proprietary ImmuneY2 drug-discovery engine, the company developed a pipeline of first-in-class therapeutic candidates, including iSONEP for wet age-related macular degeneration and ASONEP for renal cell carcinoma. These candidates targeted sphingosine-1-phosphate, a lipid involved in cell proliferation and angiogenesis. Despite advancing several programs into mid-stage clinical trials, the company faced significant setbacks when its lead candidates failed to meet primary endpoints in Phase 2 studies. In late 2016, Lpath completed a reverse merger with Apollo Endosurgery, effectively ending its operations as a lipid-targeted therapeutics developer.
