Lumen Bioscience is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that has developed a proprietary platform for the oral delivery of biologic drugs using genetically engineered spirulina. By transforming this edible microalgae into a "bio-factory," the company can produce and deliver therapeutic proteins, such as nanobodies and enzymes, directly to the gastrointestinal tract without the need for complex purification or cold-chain storage. This approach is designed to treat a variety of gut-based diseases, including C. difficile infection, norovirus, and inflammatory bowel disease, at a fraction of the cost of traditional biologics.
