Lumobiotics

Lumobiotics was a German biotechnology company and a spin-off from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) that specialized in the field of photopharmacology. The company developed a proprietary platform for "Lumo-Peptides," which are synthetic peptides integrated with light-sensitive molecular switches. This technology allowed for the spatial and temporal control of drug activity, enabling therapeutics to be activated by specific wavelengths of light only at the site of a tumor. By keeping the drug inactive in the systemic circulation, Lumobiotics aimed to significantly reduce the off-target toxicity and side effects associated with conventional cancer treatments. The company's lead research focused on disrupting protein-protein interactions, such as the p53-MDM2 complex, using these light-triggered inhibitors.
