Lymphatix

Lymphatix was a Finnish biotechnology company specializing in the development of gene therapies for lymphatic system disorders, specifically secondary lymphedema. The company was founded as a spin-off from the University of Helsinki, leveraging the pioneering research of Professor Kari Alitalo on lymphangiogenesis and growth factors. Its core technology focused on the use of adenoviral vectors to deliver the Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor C (VEGF-C) gene to stimulate the repair and growth of lymphatic vessels. In 2002, Lymphatix was acquired by Ark Therapeutics to expand its portfolio of vascular-targeted gene medicines. The lead program, later known as Lymfactin, continued development through subsequent corporate transitions and reached clinical trials for breast cancer-related lymphedema.
