LyonHeart

LyonHeart was a medical technology company focused on the development of the LionHeart Left Ventricular Assist System (LVAS), a pioneering completely implantable heart pump for patients with end-stage heart failure. The system was notable for its use of transcutaneous energy transmission, which allowed the device to be powered and recharged through the skin without the need for permanent percutaneous wires, significantly reducing the risk of infection. Originating from research at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, the company successfully brought the LVD-2000 model to clinical trials and received CE Mark approval in Europe. LyonHeart was acquired by Arrow International in 2002, and its innovations were subsequently integrated into the cardiovascular portfolio of Teleflex.
