M4ND Pharma

M4ND Pharma was a UK-based biotechnology company focused on developing gene therapies for rare neurodegenerative metabolic disorders. The company was founded as a spin-out from the University of Manchester to commercialize the research of Professor Brian Bigger into lysosomal storage disorders. Its lead program, OTL-201, is an ex vivo lentiviral gene therapy designed to treat Mucopolysaccharidosis type IIIA (MPS IIIA), also known as Sanfilippo syndrome type A. This approach involves transplanting a patient's own hematopoietic stem cells that have been genetically modified to express the missing SGSH enzyme. In September 2018, M4ND Pharma was acquired by Orchard Therapeutics to expand their portfolio of hematopoietic stem cell gene therapies. The acquisition allowed for the clinical advancement of the MPS IIIA program, which addresses a significant unmet medical need in pediatric populations.
