Company intelligence / Profile preview
Macrobiome Therapeutics is an early-stage Australian biotechnology company pioneering a new class of precision biologics derived from the secretome of parasitic helminths (hookworms). Founded in 2020 as a spin-out from James Cook University, the company leverages millions of years of host-parasite co-evolution to develop therapies that restore immune balance without broad immunosuppression. Its proprietary discovery platform is built on a large library of hookworm-derived recombinant proteins, screening them for anti-inflammatory activity. Macrobiome's lead preclinical candidates, MBT-001 and MBT-002, are being developed for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), with plans to expand the platform into asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and metabolic diseases.
