Madhvani Group

The Madhvani Group is one of East Africa’s largest and most diversified private-sector conglomerates. Founded in 1914 by Muljibhai Madhvani in Uganda, it has grown into a multi-billion-dollar enterprise with interests spanning agriculture (notably sugar production), manufacturing (glass, steel), energy (bagasse-based co-generation power plants), tourism/hospitality (luxury lodges and hotels), insurance, IT, construction, and real estate. The group employs over 10,000 people across Uganda and other regions including Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, the Middle East, India and North America. Its flagship company is Kakira Sugar Works—the largest sugar producer in Uganda. While the group supports health care initiatives through its foundation as part of corporate social responsibility, it does not operate as a life sciences/biotech/pharma/healthcare company.
