Company intelligence / Profile preview
Magnex Scientific was a premier developer and manufacturer of high-performance superconducting magnet systems used in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Established in 1982 and based in Yarnton, UK, the company was a pioneer in ultra-high-field magnet technology, notably developing the first 7-Tesla and 9.4-Tesla whole-body magnets for human imaging. In 2004, the company was acquired by Varian, Inc. for approximately $30 million to strengthen Varian's vertical integration in the clinical and life science imaging markets. Following Agilent Technologies' acquisition of Varian in 2010, Magnex's operations were integrated into Agilent's portfolio until Agilent eventually exited the NMR business in 2014.
